Giftedness Assessments Calgary

Gain A New Perspective

Unlock Your Child's Potential with Comprehensive Gifted Evaluation

When your child demonstrates exceptional abilities, intense curiosity, or learning that far exceeds their peers, understanding the depth and breadth of their giftedness is essential for providing appropriate educational opportunities and support. Gifted children often face unique challenges including boredom in standard classrooms, perfectionism, social difficulties with age-peers, and asynchronous development where intellectual abilities far exceed emotional or social maturity.

Our comprehensive giftedness assessments go beyond simple IQ testing to provide a complete picture of your child’s intellectual abilities, academic strengths, learning profile, and social-emotional needs. We help families understand not just whether their child is gifted, but how their unique profile of abilities should inform educational planning, enrichment opportunities, and parenting approaches that nurture their potential while supporting their whole development.

Comprehensive Evaluation That Reveals Your Child's Complete Intellectual Profile

Our assessment begins with detailed parent interviews about your child’s developmental history, early milestones, interests, learning patterns, social-emotional functioning, and specific concerns or goals for the assessment. We gather information about school performance, extracurricular activities, and how your child’s abilities manifest at home. Understanding the context helps us interpret test results accurately and provide meaningful recommendations.

Our detailed reports go beyond simple IQ scores to explain your child’s unique cognitive profile, including relative strengths and weaknesses across different ability areas. We provide percentile rankings showing how your child compares to age-peers, discuss implications for learning and development, identify whether your child meets criteria for gifted programming, and offer specific recommendations for educational placement, enrichment activities, parenting strategies, and social-emotional support. We conclude with a comprehensive feedback session where we review findings and answer all your questions about supporting your gifted child.

What You Can Discover On The Other Side

Yes, though assessment of very young children (under age 6) requires specialized approaches and careful interpretation. Early indicators include advanced language development, exceptional memory, intense curiosity, and rapid learning. However, formal testing becomes more reliable as children get older, and many families choose to wait until age 6-8 for comprehensive evaluation unless earlier assessment is needed for educational planning.

These “twice-exceptional” or “2e” children are quite common but often go unidentified because their giftedness masks their challenges or vice versa. Our comprehensive assessments can identify both exceptional abilities and learning differences, providing recommendations that address both aspects. These children need educational approaches that challenge their intellect while supporting their specific learning needs.

While our assessments provide documentation required for most gifted program applications, admission decisions are made by individual schools and districts based on their specific criteria, which may include additional factors beyond test scores. We ensure our reports meet documentation requirements and provide the strongest possible support for your child’s application.

Test anxiety or performance issues can impact results, which is why we create a comfortable, supportive testing environment and consider multiple data sources beyond test scores alone. If we suspect anxiety or other factors affected performance, we note this in our report and may recommend strategies or retesting when appropriate. Parent and teacher observations of real-world abilities are also valuable information.

Assessment results guide educational planning by identifying your child’s specific learning needs, documenting abilities for program placement, providing evidence for educational advocacy, recommending appropriate challenge levels, identifying areas needing enrichment or acceleration, and helping teachers understand how to differentiate instruction. The information empowers you to be an effective advocate for your child’s educational needs.
